Chester Bennett Cup, 2021

News
14 April 2021

This year's Chester Bennett Cup was held on the PAC front oval on the 28th of February. The PAOC side was made up with a number of ATCA players, with only Lachlan Pointon and James Cleggett putting their hand up from SACA clubs.

Saints won the toss and elected to bat first in the 40-over format, and boy did they enjoy playing on the pristine front oval deck, pilfering their way to 2/160 with a dozen overs to go. The Reds managed to restrict Saints in the closing overs thanks to regular wickets, however Saints still managed to post the imposing total of 9/236. James Cleggett (3/47), James Risby (2/13) and Lachlan Pointon (2/39) the pick of the bowlers.

Harry Hockney (34) got the Reds off to a steady start, however he was struggling to find a dance partner, as none of the other top 5 bats made it to double figures. The middle order didn't fare much better and we soon found ourselves out of the contest at 9/116. Hamish Latchford hit a few lusty blows to finish the innings 32* from 18 balls to get us past 150, however it wasn't enough and Saints headed to the seven stars hotel for post-match refreshments with slightly bigger similes than the PAC lads.

A big thank you to the school for hosting another enjoyable game, and thanks to the umpires and scorers for doing what they do too. We look forward to the chance to win back the cup next year at Saints.
