The event commenced with a tour of the College, with tour guide David Cornish leading the group through the new boarding house, the RED Centre and some of the older classrooms. This brought back some terrific memories such as mash ball in the old gym, which was a favourite of Tubby MacFarlane if he didn’t feel like teaching!
The reunion itself was a long lunch held at The Gallery on Waymouth. There were around forty Old Reds in attendance along with six of the masters, including Geoffrey Bean and Milton Haseloff. Guests also welcomed the current Headmaster Bradley Fenner and PAOCA President Alan Letcher. Unfortunately, there were some late withdrawals as a result of COVID lockdowns.
An entertaining Toast to the School was delivered by Chris Kidd, and the Headmaster provided an informative update on the activities of the College. There was much reminiscing with entertaining stories of exploding chalk and trips to Mr Haseloff’s office.
There was a great atmosphere within the group with a strong appreciation of the role the School has played in shaping the life of each person. With eligibility to the Annual Vintage Reds luncheon imminent, the group was looking forward to catching up on a more regular basis!
