Prior to settling in for the official part of the day, a guided tour of the school was conducted. The many highlights of this tour included visits to the Boarding House which attracted many favourable comments from the boarders from 1972 due to its amazing facilities.
The RED Centre (sporting facility) was next which also attracted many comments about how different it was to Geoff Woollard’s Gym of 1972.
The Old Reds were very impressed by the standard and diversity of facilities that are available to current students.
Back in the Prince Phillip Theatre the formalities commenced with the “In Memoriam” to deceased school friends and a list of apologies for the day’s function.
A thank you was extended to Mary-Ann Standish for her assistance in gathering guests for the day as well as liaising with the School’s Event Team regarding the luncheon and the School visit.
PAOCA President Alan Letcher extended a welcome on behalf of the Old Collegians and outlined the many activities undertaken by the Association.
In presenting the “Toast to The School”, Bill Close related many happy memories of his time at PAC. These included commencing in Grade 1 and living in the school, where his father was Headmaster of the Preparatory School as well as many fond memories of teachers past. Bill led the gathering in a rousing rendition of the School War Cry.
The recently appointed Headmaster, David Roberts, responded on behalf of the School. Mr Roberts stated that he was honoured to be appointed to this role following many great leaders in this position including Mr Geoffrey Bean AM who was present.
Mr Roberts also stated how impressed he was with the strength of the PAOC having attended a few reunions as well as the recent Old Old Boys’ Assembly during his short time at the school.
Feedback from those in attendance at this function was very positive, and we can highly recommend to all Old Reds that if an opportunity arises to attend such a reunion, make sure you do.
